Tony Rothon
"There are those who paint with the belief that the longer they spend on a picture the better it will be. I am not of that kind. I would complete a picture in a single dash if I could. It's a question of bravado, of capturing the spectator's imagination. It's a question of the extent to which the truth of a visual equivalent, however it is made, becomes graspable.
My painting is an accumulation of moments, a layering of solutions to the same problem.
Realising quite early on that my answers don't always agree with each other, let alone with anyone else, I made lack of consistency my subject matter. Repeatedly I take aim, hopeful each time that by remaining faithful to appearance ( faithful at least in spirit ) an image will accrue."
