Lazlo Ritter The Hungarian-born artist Laszlo Ritter first came to England in 1956 and he has resided and worked in Cornwall for the past 30 years. He has traveled widely in search of inspiration for his paintings´ France, Italy, Morocco and his native Hungary, but claims there is nothing to rival the beauty of the English landscape, and especially the coastline and fishing villages of Cornwall: "When the late afternoon sun hits the harbor in Mevagissey, it is a sight comparable to anywhere in the world." Having received no
formal artistic training, Laszlo began painting by following the styles
and techniques of old masters such as Claude Lorrain. Now equally competent
in both oils and watercolors, his paintings of picturesque fishing harbors
and quiet scenes of rural village life are wonderfully evocative images
of a bygone age. Laszlo Ritter has exhibited at the Mall Gallery, London,
the Marble Arch Gallery and the Harrods Contemporary Picture Gallery in
Knightsbridge, where he has been a permanent exhibitor since 1985. |
