I am a painter working en plein air in the landscape and it is this connection that creates the ‘inner content’ of the work for me - building an intimate relationship with the outer world which brings the work alive. I work in an expressive, energised way, much influenced by 20th Century painters such as Bomberg, Auerbach and more contemporary artists including George Rowlett.
Oil paint provides a responsive and sensuous vehicle for me to convey emotions with; I feel something of the experience of making becomes embedded in the paint, resulting in energised images which speak to the viewer on a visceral level. Ultimately, my work is celebratory – memorializing light, life and landscape through the vibrant medium of paint.
